Improving Relations Between Bangladesh and Pakistan

The Ambassador of Pakistan to Bangladesh Saeed Ahmed Mahroof expressed his views on the development of relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan in recent times, taking into account his experience working with the former government of the Bangladeshi National League and the previous government. He stated in an interview with the newspaper Diplomat that he sees significant changes in the context of new Bangladesh.

"The first noticeable change - I have become busier than before. In the new Bangladeshi context, I see more differences. Previously, our communication was not as frequent and intense as it is now. At present, it seems that we meet every two days, interact and actively participate with the government. I consider that this increasing interaction is a positive signal for bilateral relations between the countries," he emphasized.

He also noted that the exchange between Bangladesh and Pakistan can contribute to strengthening their relations, without undermining the interests of other countries. It is suggested that rice, onions, potatoes, sugar, and spices could dominate in terms of trade volume in the coming days, and such products as ready-made garments and famous Pakistani textiles could gain priority based on cost. Automobiles could become an important export product in the near future.

The responsible for the questions of the current Bangladeshi government Muhammad Yunus actively supports the revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. Pakistan actively supports this initiative because the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation was originally initiated by Bangladesh and occupies a special place in the heart of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who deeply adheres to its restoration.

Mahroof also noted that any diplomat naturally interacts with all political parties, as they will ultimately manage the country.
