The son and advisor of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated on Sunday that supporters of her Awami League party will obstruct the national elections in February if the ban on the party is not lifted. He warned that protests could escalate into violence, adding that the expected verdict on Monday could result in a death sentence. These statements by Sajeeb Wazed come as a court in Dhaka is set to deliver a verdict, which will be broadcast on television, expected to convict the 78-year-old Hasina in absentia of crimes against humanity for a crackdown on student-led protests in 2024 that led to fatalities. Hasina has been in exile in New Delhi since fleeing Bangladesh.
